Nigeria Takes Center Stage at International Telecommunication Union's World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 Closing Ceremony

In a momentous event, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honourable Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, spearheaded the Nigerian delegation's pivotal role at the closing ceremony of the International Telecommunication Union's World Radiocommunication Conference 2023. The ceremony saw the official signing of the Final Act of the Radio Regulations, symbolizing Nigeria's commitment to global telecommunications standards.

Joining Dr. Tijani in this historic occasion were prominent figures such as Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and Jane Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat), along with other key members of the Nigerian delegation.

The World Radiocommunications Conference, convened every three to four years by the International Telecommunications Union, a United Nations-affiliated organization, serves as a crucial global treaty conference. Dating back to 1906, it reviews and updates the international treaty, Radio Regulations, governing spectrum and satellite orbits.

WRC-23 witnessed the approval of 43 new resolutions and the revision of 56 existing ones. The conference, attended by over 3,900 delegates from 163 Member States, including 88 ministerial-level participants, showcased Nigeria's active engagement in shaping the future of global telecommunications.

Notably, 151 Member States signed the WRC-23 Final Acts, a comprehensive record of decisions made during the conference. These Acts encompass both the new and revised provisions of the Radio Regulations, Appendices, and Resolutions, solidifying Nigeria's commitment to advancing the global telecommunications landscape.
